Field Day, 12:00 - 2:15 pm on June 2nd

Parent volunteers needed to help supervise!

There will be food trucks, game and activity vendors, and big games.  Field Day is for all students, all grades. If a student is on the "Non-Participation" list for behavior concerns, then they will not be invited to attend as Field Day is a reward activity for good behavior in Quarter 4.

If you can help, please contact Nicole Ziegler (Manasewitsch) at manasewitschn@mdusd.org.

End of Day Policy

Dear Parents,

Traditions are a wonderful thing, but most of us recognize that over time traditions change for many reasons.  One of the traditions at Valley View is that students have been allowed to hang-out after school.  There are often students still on campus when administrators leave late in the day.  We are seeing a recent increase in vandalism, inappropriate behavior, “cupid concerns”, profanity and other behavior that occurs when students are unsupervised.  Because of our concerns for student safety and appropriateness, we are going to start enforcing the handbook’s “End of Day” clause.  “All students should be off campus no later than 3:00 unless under the direct supervision of a teacher, administrator or other staff member.”  Starting 4/10/17 at 2:30 we will be directing all students to the front of the school to wait for their rides unless they are supervised.  At 3:00 the gates will be closed and anyone still waiting for a ride will be instructed to remain in front of the Multi-Use room.  There will be no supervision after 3:00 and students should be leaving campus.  Students who are under supervision with a teacher will be walked out to the front when their activity is over.  Thank you for making arrangements for your students after school.

MDUSD Middle School 8th Grade Promotion/Activity Participation Requirements

Academic Requirements:

  • Students who receive F's at any point in the school year will be provided with intervention and may be placed on Academic Probation. Academic Probation may include: Weekly Progress Reports, Academic and/or Behavior Contract, and other requirements as determined by site administration and the site team. Should a student continue to fail even with interventions, they may become ineligible for Promotion as determined by the site team and clearly articulated to parents and the student.
  • Students with IEPs/504/or ELLs may be eligible based on individual performance goals as determined by their Case Manager or Administration.
  • No retained student shall participate in 8th Grade Activities including promotion.

Behavioral Requirements:

  • During the 4th quarter, two or more behavior infractions (referrals) or any suspensions from school will disqualify students from participating in end of the year 8th grade activities with a tiered approach. First infraction is loss of first event, next infraction equals the second event, etc.
  • Site administration may consider approving an individual student who has violated the behavioral requirements to participate in only the promotion ceremony if academic requirements are met and other means of correction have been satisfactorily completed. Case-by-case determination is made by the site team.

Literacy Corner

Earlier this school year, sixth graders wrote personal narratives. More than 30 stories were selected as finalists. All sixth graders were invited to participate in the peer review; the names of the committee members are below. After reading all of the stories, the peer committee met to determine which stories would best represent the talented writers at Valley View. Congratulations to all of these writers. You have much to be proud of!
